The Story Behind the Cork

The story of how one bottle of wine became a passion for bringing people together.

My love for wine started with a simple gift from my dad.

On my 21st birthday, he handed me my very first bottle of wine—a sweet red table wine from Leelanau Cellars. At the time, I had no idea that one bottle would spark a passion that would completely change the direction of my life.

Not long after, I discovered Malbec and Shiraz, and that was it. I was hooked. Every new grape, every wine region, every style felt like another piece of a puzzle I couldn't wait to explore. The more I learned, the more I realized that wine is so much more than what's in the glass. It's history, geography, culture, science, craftsmanship, and storytelling—all brought together in a single bottle.

Then I watched Somm.

Seeing the dedication and passion behind the world of wine inspired me to dive in headfirst. I began working at a winery, where I had the opportunity to pour wine, guide tastings, and connect with people every single day. It wasn't just the wine that kept me coming back—it was the people.

Some of my favorite moments happen when someone says, "I don't like wine."

Not because I want to prove them wrong, but because I get to help them discover a wine they never expected to love. I love introducing guests to unexpected food pairings, encouraging them to step outside their comfort zones, and watching their expression change when something just clicks. That moment of surprise, curiosity, and excitement never gets old.

Those experiences inspired me to create Cork & Conversation.

I wanted to bring the tasting room experience into a more personal setting—your home, your table, your favorite people. No pretension. No pressure to know the "right" tasting notes. Just thoughtfully selected wines, great conversation, plenty of laughter, and an experience that leaves everyone feeling a little more connected than when they arrived.

Because I've come to believe that the best part of wine isn't collecting bottles or memorizing grape varieties.

It's watching a bottle bring people together.

Whether you're celebrating a milestone, gathering friends for a cozy evening, or simply looking for a different way to spend time with the people you love, my hope is that every Cork & Conversation experience leaves you with a new favorite wine, a few great stories, and memories you'll be talking about long after the last glass is poured.

After all, wine starts the conversation.

The people around the table are what make it unforgettable.
